We’ve certainly gone through a challenging year and a half. Some of us are still feeling the strain of constantly being cautious, fearing for our health and that of our family and friends. This may show up as forgetfulness, insomnia, tightness in the neck and shoulders, tension in the chest, palpitations, and stomach upset. There can be a tendency to have a steady stream of worrying thoughts coupled with a sense of ungroundedness. These symptoms may have worsened over the last year or so when we were choosing to keep our personal bubbles small. We are social beings–the inability to connect, hug, hold, and touch those we love has taken a toll.
Although getting vaccinated, or at least partially, has given us some relief, we are still feeling quite nervous about our safety even when the Covid case rate has dropped significantly. This is quite normal. It would be unusual to not feel this way. There are, however, a number of ways we can help you in the clinic.
First, rest assured that we take your health and safety seriously, by having everyone wear masks, washing our hands frequently, disinfecting surfaces between patients, and limiting the number of people in our office. We screen ourselves and everyone that comes in.
The treatments and techniques we offer are acupuncture, acupressure, cupping, Chinese massage with essential oils, pranayama, and meditation instruction/checking.
Acupuncture can be extremely relaxing by unblocking and balancing your energy flows. For those who are more scientifically inclined, endorphins are released after needling occurs, and people often fall asleep when they are on the table.
If you are afraid of needles, we can give you acupressure instead, a clothes-on technique which works in a similar way. We practice a style of acupressure that cultivates a sense of inner peace.
Did you know that cupping can be an effective stress reduction technique? We offer sliding fire cupping or stationary vacuum cupping along the muscles at each side of the spine.
The form of massage that we give in our clinic is a cross between Chinese (Tui Na) and Swedish massage. For stress relief the technique is quite gentle and often includes not only back, but hand and foot, scalp, and even ear massage. The addition of essential oils can deepen the relaxing effect.
With any of these treatments, we teach pranayama, or mindful breathing techniques that help to get you out of your head and into your body. Breathing properly is one of the most powerful ways to relax, and stay relaxed. This can be emphasized with a guided grounding technique.
Meditation instruction and checking are also available to you. We are familiar with mindfulness, visualization, and mantra based styles.
Yes, many of us are feeling the pandemic tension, but you don’t need to suffer any longer. Book today and experience deep relaxation.
