At Hoku we offer entire acupressure treatments for those of you who wish not to be poked with needles (and we are guessing there are a few of you out there)! Acupressure can be just as effective and treats physical pain, relieves stress, helps with insomnia, balances the body’s systems, and can be a marvellous tool in self-discovery. We also offer Alchemical 5-Element acupressure for deep relaxation and spiritual growth.
Acupressure is a wonderful way to receive the benefits of acupuncture and feel much more nurtured at the same time. With this clothes-on technique, all you need to do is lie comfortably face up on a massage table while Angela presses on acupuncture points in a specific sequence tailor made for you, using a moderate finger pressure. For physical pain, a session can be completed in one hour; for a relaxation treatment 90 minutes is required as it can take more time for stress leave your body. For emotional wellness, many of the points selected lie on the Extraordinary Vessels which are the homeostatic powerhouses of the acupuncture world.
Angela has been a registered Jin Shin Do (R) practitioner since 1998 and offers this particular style when helping her patients achieve emotional wellness and further their spiritual growth.
The founder of this wonderful method describes it as such:
“Jin Shin Do” means “The Way of the Compassionate Spirit”. Jin Shin Do (R) Bodymind Acupressure(R) uses the gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points and verbal Body Focusing techniques, to help release “armouring” or chronic tension, balance the “Qi” or energy, and improve vitality.
This clothes-on method helps relieve stress-and-trauma-related problems.
A unique synthesis of a traditional Japanese acupressure technique, classic Chinese acupuncture and acupressure theory, Taoist Philosophy, Qigong (breathing and exercise techniques), Reichian segmental theory and principles of Ericksonian psychotherapy, it is recognized as a major form of Asian Bodywork Therapy (by AOBTA(R), NCCAOM(R), NCBTMB, and the US Department of Education, among others). Originated by psychotherapist Iona Marsaa Teegarden, Jin Shin Do (R) Acupressure promotes a pleasant trancelike state, in which one can relax and move out of the head and into the body accessing feelings and inner wisdom.
Jin Shin Do (R) Bodymind Acupressure(R) is not intended for the diagnosis, treatment or cure of disease. It is a relaxation therapy, and a useful adjunct to licensed, qualified medical or psychological care. For any persistent pain or symptom, even a seemingly minor one, the reader is strongly encouraged to consult a medical doctor. When used in conjunction with standard medical treatment, the Jin Shin Do (R) Acupressure technique can assist the healing process by releasing tension, decreasing stress, and encouraging a sense of increased well-being.
